[3] The Law of June 2, 1897, fixed the working day for workers in industrial enterprises and railway workshops at 11 1/2 hours, and also reduced the number of holidays for the workers. [p. 15]
[4] This refers to the "Provisional Regulations Governing Military Service for Students at Higher Educational Establishments" introduced by the government on July 29, 1899. On the basis of these regulations, students who took part in collective demonstrations against the police regime that had been introduced in higher educational establishments were expelled and conscripted as privates in the tsarist army for a period ranging from one to three years.
